About Me
About Me – a brief Bio
My
name is Michael Van Ert, my company is 612359 B.C. Ltd
(catchy, isn’t it?) and I’m known as ‘The Computer Guy’.
How’d I pick the name? I didn’t, my clients picked it
for me. In the beginning I’d go to my clients home and
knock on the door and invariably the door would be
answered by the person who called me and they’d ask “Are
you The Computer Guy?”. I figured my clients knew best
and if they thought I was ‘The Computer Guy’ who was I
to argue? I’ve been ‘The Computer Guy!’ since 1995.
I have built, repaired and upgraded thousands and
thousands of computers from the original IBM XT 8088
based cpu to today’s Intel i7’s. I repair desktops,
laptops and the new netbooks, all makes, all models.
I’ve repaired a few Mac’s, too, along the way but mainly
PC’s.

I am self-taught for the most part. Others may have an
innate ability to play a musical instrument or are great
with math, with me it is computers. They make sense to
me, they challenge me and I enjoy repairing them.
Over the years I have been certified and trained by
Microsoft and I am currently aligned with them, Intel
and AMD in one way or another,
spending at least 15% of my time keeping up with the
technology and the products that continually change and
evolve. It seems the average lifespan of a computer
product is about 3-6 months so you can see it is a
challenge to keep up. I’m not going to tell you I am
able to keep up with every innovation, that’s just not
possible, however, I do take the time to at least know
of all these innovations and I focus on the ones most
likely to affect the average user.
I live in Surrey, B.C., Canada, a city that borders the
U.S. on the west coast. I am married to Pat, have two
children and two grandchildren.
I am registered
as a Microsoft Partner and am a TechNet member. Call me
for details at 778-987-6148 or send me an email
mike@mvanert.com . Oh, and I don't speak
'geek', only plain English.
